He turned 11 today. My first born son. I am very proud of him. We have our differences, but he is such a smart kid. Sweet and gentle with the desire to learn about and know everything. I would not trade him for the world, my Nicholas.

Father and son. So much alike in mind and heart.

Yearly tradition of making valentines with Amy P. Stella was helping Carissa do her homework.

Made bread today and thought of how Jesus is the bread of life.

In my home, Dr MLK dream came true.

Just playing and learning how with my camera.

It was a beautiful morning.

The last leg of our New Years adventure was to head to MN and meet up with the Taylor family who were there visiting family. The Taylor's are dear friends who live in San Antonio, so we didn't want to miss the opportunity to say hello when we were on a few hrs away.
It was a blessing to spend time with David, Beth, Maggie and Nora and celebrate Beth's 30th birthday together. I am grateful for friendships that stay strong despite the miles.

It was a joy to get to know David better by getting to know his family. What a warm and welcoming home away from home.

Maggie has called Dan "Daddy Dan" since she could talk. Once she warmed up to us she spent a lot of time holding his hand and sitting in his lap. So sweet.

My personal favorite. What goes on in the head of a 3-year-old?!?

Beth's mom Gretchen was also able to come to MN. Getting to know her was very special and meaningful to me. Mom's are amazing!

Nick was a hit with the little ladies.

David and Beth have four nephews. Dan had a great time playing with all the boys :)

Carissa and Nora had a lot of cuddle time.

Happy Birthday Beth. We love you very much!

January 14th, 2014
Today would have been my father-in-love's 64th birthday. He has been gone 3 years now and we miss him. However, we have so much joy knowing that he is well and content in heaven. We are looking forward to the day we all get to be together.
In honor of Bill we are starting a new tradition. Dad's favorite cake was chocolate mayonnaise. Its the secret ingredient to Portillo's Chocolate cake, if you ever wanted to know. We have been making this cake for years, many birthdays, and almost always on Dad's birthday. So this year I will make this cake and we will share memories. Because he is a man worth remembering. Next year too, and for years to come . . . Lord willing.
Love you Dad.
